New Age Spirituality - Morning Has Been All Night Coming ( Part 45 )

November 20, 2008

Wednesday, which had seemed such a long way off, finally arrived. The prospect of seeing Marla again was almost unbearably exciting, but deep within me I could still sense a calmness unknown in more ordinary times. I hadnt seen her in years, but the feeling that she knew something about my wife grew stronger instead of diminishing. Experience foretold that there would be much to learn from dinner this evening. Making the necessary baby-sitting arrangements, I was all dressed and ready before 7:00.

Gideon was hardly,if ever, late. True to form, at exactly the appointed hour, a long, sleek car pulled into my driveway. A few moments later the doorbell rang and I opened the door to greet Gideons enigmatic grin. Standing next to him was a picture of great delight and beauty. Marla reached out, shook my hand and gave me a big hug. She seemed not to have aged a day and, if anything, appeared younger and more vivacious than ever.

Come in please, I said. Marla, its so good to see you. Ive missed you. Gideon, here, seemed intent on keeping you away from me these many years. Please come in. Ive been looking forward to our meeting again, John, she proclaimed with a lovely smile.

We wont come in now; the car is waiting, interjected Gideon. Lets go, we have a beautiful evening planned.

I went back into the house, kissed the children good- bye and then proceeded out the front door. Gideon, Marla and I walked to the car as a well-dressed chauffeur stepped out and held the door for us.

Whats this with the limo and driver, Gideon? I asked. I thought you believed in living simply.

Living simply is one thing. Living in a miserly manner is another. We should always use the tools at our disposal. So long as a balance is maintained, we can enjoy the gifts we have. Love people and use things instead of using people and loving things. Divine non-attachment, John.
