Children of Light (part #1)

October 13, 2008

If youre a Christian or one who embraces the New Testament, you will find a phrase (depending of course on which translation you have in your possession) thats reported to have been spoken by Jesus and written by Paul- maybe others. That phrase is found in I Thes. 5:5, Eph. 5:8, Luke 16:8, and particularly in John 12:36. The phrase? Children of light!

Whats that phrase mean? Is it literal or metaphorical? Ill answer that one in part 2.

Lets deal with the children aspect of our humanity-spirituality first. When the Bible (especially the KJV) uses the word children, it can mean a range of descriptions anywhere from Babies (nepios), to toddlers (padion), to teenagers (teknon), to mature sons (huios). In John 12, the word is for mature sons. Our journey in this life is to be the children that our Creator intended us to be: mature and fully developed.

The Creator experiences life through us- the creations!

Weve been handicapped though. Our parents didnt intend it to be that way; however, its how its been for centuries. The good news is that we are evolving! We simply need to go faster, do better. Our children can be greatly benefitted if well do three things.

I believe well evolve greatly between now and 2012.

>Guide them in their freedom which means we need to let them explore, and in fact encourage them to go places where weve not been and in so doing take us with them. Its our potential that scares us as Marianne Williamson said.
>Provide a safe space where they can experiment without fear of judgment. Encourage them to learn through making mistakes- mistakes that arent hramful but learning based.
>Love them and not try and fix them. Love will do the fixing. Some of our most difficult kids are the ones who turn out to be the best, the genius, the advanced, once they experience supernatural love. After all, usually the most rebellious are the most scared. They just cover it up.

Luke 18:15 cautions (warns) us not to STOP the children. We do stop them from being who theyre called to be by the prejudices we have, the teachings we pass on, and the fears we embrace. Until we, the adults, become more of whm God has called us to be, our kids will be handicapped in life.

Free the kids! Be free yourself
