The Rise to Power of China in the World Economy

The rise to power of China in the world economy causes at the same time admiration and fear. More and more of developed and intermediate countries - as Mexico or South Korea - noted a clear increase in the imports of Chinese products and a competition increased on the international markets. This study analyzes the capacities of innovation of China and the potential challenge Which it represents for industries of high technology of the advanced countries. The first part is interested in the commercial performances of China, in particular in the sectors of the high technology, where they are impressive. The second part underlines the important investments that China engaged in the R&D and higher education. It also stresses the contribution of the foreign firms and the international partnerships to the scientific and technological resources of China. The third part examines the scientific and technological production to draw up an inventory of fixtures of its capacities. China is still far from being a technological super power.
