Coming Prepared to your Pharmacy
September 7, 2008
Retail pharmacy is a jungle we must all learn to navigate especially as we grow older. From WALGREENS to CVS/Pharmacy, frustration can eat away at your sanity and mood faster than that bad heart or flu ever could. This article is an attempt to provide you with information which although terribly simple, is rarely exercised by even the most knowledgeable of pharmacy customers. So save yourself a headache the next time you want to go in for your Propecia Prescription refill and read on...
COME PREPARED TO YOUR PHARMACY
As you walk into ANY Pharmacy around the country, it’s in your best interest to arrive with knowledge and or actual possession of the following concerning yourself and or any other person whose medication you are attempting to fill:
1. Name
2. DOB (date of birth)
3. Address and Phone Number
4. **Insurance information**
Insurance is the single most time consuming task for any pharmacy staff. It can literally have them on the phone with your insurance carrier for half an hour. So please arrive with your insurance card. If you have recently changed insurance coverage, DONT wait for your new insurance card to arrive. Call your companys HR department, and or your insurance company directly and write down (if available) your ID #, Group #, BIN #, and the actual name of the Insurance carrier. Coming to your local pharmacy in the know concerning your insurance information will save you TIME and money. It’s not prudent to arrive at your local pharmacy and then try to figure out your insurance coverage while you’re there. Know your coverage. You are paying for it.
5. P.S. And dont forget to bring your prescription along also :)
